Long u: Final e Rule English Matching Activity

Practice English vocabulary by matching each picture with the correct word. This activity contains 8 words from the Long u: Final e Rule topic.

Remember that each vowel (a, e, i, o, u) has two sounds: short and long. The short sound for the letter u is /͝u/ and the long sound says its name, /͞u/. When you see an e at the end of the word, the vowel before it says its name. For example, t, u, b spells tub. When you add an e at the end it says tube, with a long u sound in the middle. The e is silent -- we don't hear it.  It is just there to make the u say the sound of its name. Listen for the long u sound in these words. Notice that each word has a u in the middle and ends with the letter e.
