Long o: Final e Rule English Matching Activity
Practice English vocabulary by matching each picture with the correct word. This activity contains 10 words from the Long o: Final e Rule topic.
Remember that each vowel (a, e, i, o, and u) has two sounds: short and long. The short sound for the letter o is / ͝o/ and the long sound says its name, / ͞o/. We learned that when you see an e at the end of the word, the vowel before it says its name. For example, h, o, p spells hop. When you add an e at the end it says hope, with a long o sound in the middle. The e is silent -- we don't hear it. It is just there to make the o say the sound of its name. Listen for the long o sound in these words. Notice that each word has an o in the middle and ends with the letter e.
